Breckenridge Ski Resort
Founded in 1859,
Breckenridge is a mountain town founded near the area noted in history
as a popular camp For many years, these mountains transformed paupers into prosperous people with the amount of wealth it had to offer. Even though the gold rush ended in the 1940s, the 1960s saw Breckenridge once again flooding with people from all over the world. This time, however; the gold was white.
The charm and beauty of Breckenridge ski resorts, though; does not melt away with the white snow. Even through the summer, it remains a coveted vacation destination with the different types of activities it offers. While avoiding the peak season definitely has its financial benefits, the skiing season in the Colorado region typically spans from late October to around the start of June. The prime vacation season is mid November to April.
Something for Everyone
Breckenridge boasts a diverse range of experiences for skiing enthusiasts. The four inter-connected mountains that make up this amazing resort area have around 145 trails and provide an amazing range of terrain types. With about 100 lifts serving the area, you will almost always find a relaxed ride to the top. Four peaks, half-pipes, high-speed passenger super-chairs and terrain parks; the area caters to skiers of all abilities. Even if you are aspiring to be a skier, the ski and ride school can help you master these fascinating slopes or at least glide down a few of them.
For newcomers to the sport, heading to Peak 9 might be a good idea, as it caters to both beginner and intermediate level skiing. This peak has two different terrain parks. Eldorado Terrain Park is designed for learners and it tends to groom them with small jumps, rails and a mini pipe. If you think you are a bit grown up for that stuff, head towards the Gold King Park that has was specifically designed for intermediate boarders and skiers.
Peak 7 is perfect for the intermediate skier, with well-groomed runs and averagely angled slopes. You can get some vertical slopes and daring chutes on Peak 7 as well. But for that you have to reach the summit of Peak 7, which is accessible through Peak 8. These, are literally, breath-taking slopes.
I always try to spend at least a day on Peak 7 - the rolling terrain and
typically less crowded slopes make the catwalk worthwhile.
Peak 8 boasts the grand Freeway Super Park, which is one of the most renowned terrain parks in America. The park holds numerous sporting events every year. Twister is another terrain park on Peak 8 that caters primarily to beginners with small jumps, rails and fun boxes. On the whole this peak has enough for all skiers with different abilities to make their runs enjoyable. A trail head on one side and a T- bar on the other leads the riders to the High Alpine bowls which are above the lifts for either Peak 7 or 8 resorts.
When you get to Peak 10, things get a bit more serious. This area is for expert skiers and boarders only. With lots of trees, bumps, stumps, and challenging slopes, this mountain will satisfy skiing lovers. In case you get to the top and change your mind about actually attempting the feat, try sticking to the blue-black runs like Centennial, Double jack and Crystal for an easier way down.
And More Still…
After a day full of skiing pleasures, the town offers ample diversions to make your time in Breckenridge thoroughly satisfying. Ice skating can be done on the Maggie Pond during the winter months and still more snow can be enjoyed with activities like dog-sledding, sleigh riding, snowmobiling.
In case you are capable of tiring from the snow, activities like horseback riding, gold mine tours and activities at the recreation center are inviting options. The nightlife in Breckenridge is also not something to be missed. With a great variety of
places to eat and hang out, the town will make sure that you have a busy vacation. The best thing is that people with different tastes and budget limits can find things to do and places to enjoy throughout the town.
